The Wellness Advocates at the Muhlenberg Job Corps in Greenville, Kentucky conducted a fundraiser for the Muhlenberg County Backpack Program. The Backpack Program, sponsored by the area Muhlenberg County 4-H, raises money for Muhlenberg County school system students who do not have enough to eat on the weekends when they are not in school The program requires eighty dollars a year per child to operate. Over three hundred and fifty school children participate in the program with an annual cost in excess of twenty eight thousand dollars.
To help out with expenses the Wellness Advocates at the Muhlenberg Job Corps sponsored a “Dress Down Day” for all students and staff. A date for the “Dress Down Day” was chosen students and staff had to pay money to wear jeans to school and work that day. After all was said and done three hundred and eighty one dollars was raised for the worthwhile program.
Tommy Harrison, 4-H Coordinator for Muhlenberg County said, “It is very touching to received a such a wonderful donation from the Job Corps students. It says a lot about their caring attitudes for them to go the extra mile for these school children who are struggling in life.
