Greenville, Ky – Muhlenberg Job Corps Business Community Liaison joined other Kentucky BCL’s and Horizon’s Youth Services as well as Insights Training Group staff, for the National Job Corps Association policy forum. The forum was held on Thursday, April 26th, at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington DC.
On Wednesday, April 25th, The team met with Congressional legislators in their DC offices on Capitol Hill to discuss support of the Job Corps program and the current standings of each center as well as program needs.
“We were met with bipartisan support on capitol hill for the Job Corps program. I was able to meet with Representative James Comer, and Representative Thomas Massie in person, as well as staff members from the offices of Representatives Hal Rogers, John Yarmuth, and Senator Mitch McConnell. All expressed their support for the program and offered their assistance in maintaining the success of the Muhlenberg Job Corps program, as well as all seven of the Kentucky Job Corps Centers.” Said Ashby.
Members of the team, which included, Jannette Sweeney, BCL of the Whitney Young Job Corps Center; Jimmie Wilson, BCL of the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center; Sandra Catalan, President of Insights Training Group; and Pete Calvo, President of Horizons Youth Services, also met with the office of Rand Paul while the Muhlenberg BCL, along with a Horizons Youth Services Vice President of Operations, Nolyn Fueller, met with Representative James Comer.
Topics of discussion during the policy forum included, apprenticeship initiatives, employer partnerships and perspectives, and modernizing the Job Corps program.
