On Friday, September 11, 2015, the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center’s Student Government Association leaders held a Patriot Day ceremony at the county Veterans Memorial Center in Greenville, Kentucky. Student Cody Pardue kicked off the event by singing The National Anthem in front of the great turn out of military, first responders, and community representatives.
Karen Robinson, the Business Community Liaison asked all in attendance to stand for a moment of silence to honor the fallen heroes of the 911 tragedy and for those who still grieve.
After, Robinson continued by stating, “Student Government would like to thank all of those who serve and protect us in Muhlenberg County. Unfortunately it seems that the community only recognizes the brave and generous acts of our First Responders when tragedy occurs. We shouldn’t need something terrible to happen for us to realize how fortunate we are to have such well-trained men and women here for us every single moment. We all have a purpose and a duty to fulfill and while doing so we need to always keep in mind that integrity matters, responsibility matters, and service matters.”
SGA leaders presented sixteen Hometown Hero plaques to all of the following servicemen and first responders:
1. Owensboro Health – Muhlenberg Community Hospital
2. Muhlenberg County 911
3. Muhlenberg Emergency Management Services
4. Muhlenberg County Sheriff
