Muhlenberg Job Corps’ Heavy Equipment Program

The Muhlenberg Job Corps Center has two clusters of training, and the cluster we are highlighting today is Heavy Industry.  As a Job Corps student, you can learn how to perform the essential tasks of a heavy equipment operator, including operating power construction equipment, such as motor graders, bulldozers, scrapers, compressors, or front-end loaders, in order to excavate, move and grade earth, erect structures, or pour concrete or other hard-surface pavement.

Students earn credentials that help them gain the knowledge and skills to assist their success in heavy equipment operating.  Credentials lead to greater employment opportunities, higher wages, and promotions.  Just a few of the credentials a student may earn are:  OSHA, Green certification, flagger, forklift operations, and NCCER (National Center for Construction Education & Research).  A student who completes this program can expect an average starting salary of $39,000/year.

MJCC takes pride in its programs and their hard working, skilled and talented staff.  Hands on training occurs on center, or at off site locations for community projects.  Here you see heavy equipment operator trade instructor Brian Hancock and students clearing some ground on center to build a road for the heavy truck driving (CDL) course.
