Thanks to the training he received at Muhlenberg Job Corps and the encouragement from center staff to continue his job training by enrolling in a Job Corps advanced training program, Glenn Henderson now has a lucrative and successful career as an Over-The-Road truck driver with Covenant Transport out of Chattanooga, TN.
His path to success wasn’t always so clear. Like many high school graduates, Henderson, who is from New Milford, PA, didn’t know what career path to pursue or how to get the job training he needed in a field he was passionate about – heavy equipment operations. That changed when he discovered Job Corps and the HEO program offered at Muhlenberg Job Corps. He enrolled at Muhlenberg in April 2018, and completed his training there in May 2019
In addition to completing the HEO program at MJCC, Henderson earned the OSHA-10 and forklift certifications.
But even more importantly, he had the backing of staff members who believed in him and encouraged him to continue his job training by getting his Class A Commercial Driver’s License through the Advanced Training program at Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center.
“Job Corps prepared me in so many ways,” Henderson said. “It gave me the opportunity to move away from home and get a feel of what it’s like to live on my own. It also taught me the skills I need to be a professional and earn a wage to support myself. Job Corps improved and changed my life because I was able to learn new skills and get a good education. If you want something you never had, you have to do something you have never done.”
