Muhlenberg Job Corps Center – Alumni Spotlight
When Woodjanie Chery, a Haitian refugee, enrolled at Muhlenberg Job Corps Center she faced insurmountable challenges: strong language barriers, the sudden loss of her mother, and homelessness – just to name a few. With determination and invaluable assistance from the Muhlenberg Job Corps Staff, Chery is now completely self-supportive, has a great job, a lovely apartment, money in her savings, and has powered through all obstacles.
During Chery’s time at Muhlenberg Job Corps Center she achieved so much: she completed both the Certified Medical Assistant and the Medical Office Support trades, obtained her driver’s license, received a Muhlenberg High School diploma with honors, passed testing for her US citizenship, and was sworn in as a US Citizen in Louisville, KY. Greatly assisting all of her success were the efforts of the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center’s English Language Learner program, Chery now speaks fluent English.
Chery now works for the Avante at Leesburg Nursing Home. Chery states that “The Muhlenberg Job Corps program provided me the opportunity to create my own success, but the staff saved my life.”
