Muhlenberg Job Corps – A Spark to a Flame

The Muhlenberg Job Corps Center welding class is one of many talents. The administrator of the City of Greenville recently requested the trade to build a fire pit from scratch. Student Spencer Phillips, who is the class foreman, with no hesitation jumped at the opportunity. With the help of classmate, Tomas Arce, each flame was uniquely welded and fabricated with a creative hand into a 3-D wood burning pit.

Small welding projects such as this are perfect for students in training to practice their welding skills and to obtain work-based learning hours. The City of Greenville will eventually have the pit painted with a ceramic paint that will uphold heat temperatures up to 1800 degrees. Before Spring, the finished pit will be placed at the Luzerne Lake Picnic Pavilion for many fisherman, families, and visitors to enjoy.
