Greenville, KY – On September 20th, former Commercial Driving student, Talika Harris stopped by MJCC to talk to students in the current CDL program about life on the job. Harris drove her truck, owned by Star Transportation, on center so students could see her in action. She spoke about what to expect after completing the program, and how much she enjoys being a commercial driver.
“We can’t change the world unless we change ourselves first!” said Harris. “Job Corps made a way for me to provide for me and my family. I am a success, with the help of MJCC staff, I was able to accomplish my goals.”
Harris began the program in November of 2014, and completed the CDL program at the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center for her Class B CDL. She then transferred to another Job Corps center for advanced training to obtain her Class A CDL before going to work for Star Transportation on June 21, 2017. In the three months she has been with the company, she has already been to most of the lower 48 states. She currently lives in Lexington, KY and plans to continue working for Star Transportation. “I am very pleased with my current rate of pay. I have been working up to 70 hours per week”, said Harris.
Scottie Brooks, MJCC CDL instructor said, “Talika Harris was a great student. She was the best student that I had who could drive a truck as well as she did. Our dump truck has 10 gears in it and Talika could drive that truck like she had been driving it for years. She was always willing to help others too.”
