In the middle of a hot Georgia Summer in 2010, Demoine Ricky Lofton realized his life was on the road to no-where and that he wanted more out of life. This is when he realized Job Corps could be the perfect opportunity for his interests. Ricky left his home state and enrolled into the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center in Greenville, Kentucky in October the same year.
During his one and a half year enrollment, Ricky was very active in multiple leadership roles such as dorm president, vice president, sergeant of arms, and recreation Leader. More importantly, he not only completed one trade, but three: Heavy Equipment Operator, Construction Equipment Mechanics, and Commercial Drivers License. When Ricky graduated from the program in March 2012, he worked for Triple A for a few months before being hired as a full time over the road driver with Swift Transportation Company. Swift is one of the largest transporting companies in the business to haul temperature controlled, flat bed, heavy hauling or dry goods to the most respected businesses in the world.
While in route, on December 1, 2014 Ricky stopped by the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center to visit the center. He was so excited to show his former teachers, instructors and current students his success, his 18-wheeler truck. Ricky states, “I owe my success to Job Corps and to all the staff who showed me they cared and had faith in me. I enjoy the freedom of truck driving because it fits my personality and lifestyle.” Ricky’s home base is in Atlanta, Georgia and is proud to say he earns $60-$65k a year traveling all over the country.
