While working at fast food restaurants in Crestview, Florida, Hannah Hamilton realized the low wage income she was earning was just not enough. She thrived for a better life for herself. This is when she heard of the Job Corps program and immediately enrolled. In January of 2013, Hannah arrived at the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center. During her enrollment she successfully completed Clinical Medical Assistant where she passed her nationals exam with a certification in phlebotomy. But Hannah didn’t stop there, she also completed a second trade, Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide, also passing the state test with ease. Hannah enjoys reading, music, and playing on the coed MJCC volleyball and softball teams. She has served in several leadership roles such as recreation leader and two terms on the Student Government Association as Sgt. at Arms and Secretary. Hannah also completed 390 hours of Work-Based Learning at the Greater Muhlenberg County Chamber of Commerce and Maple Manor nursing home.

In addition to all this, as if there could be more, Hannah completed her first semester at the Madisonville Community College where she tackled her pre-requisites for nursing and ended the semester with a 4.0 GPA. The MJCC College Coordinator, Sarah Heltsley says, “Hannah is a great student, she is very dedicated and driven to reach her goals to become a registered nurse (RN). I am working closely with Hannah to make sure she has what she needs. For the fall semester she maintained a GPA of a 4.0 and I couldn’t be any prouder of her.” Hannah says, “I am truly grateful for the staff who have supported me throughout my two years in the Job Corps program. Job Corps has helped me further my education; going to college was never in my plans. But I’m very glad that I was encouraged to take this extra step that will only benefit my future in the long run. ” Her future plans are to graduate from college with a nursing degree.
