Milwaukee Job Corps Center’s Health and Wellness Initiative

On September 24th, thirty-three staff and fifty-two students from the Milwaukee Job Corps Center began a center-wide health initiative to lose weight. The center’s focus is on healthy eating and active lifestyles; while educating the students about the ways good health leads to sustained employability. The Wellness staff has coordinated a competition along the lines of “The Biggest Loser.” Students and staff have formed teams of 2 staff and 4 students. The teams will weigh in on a weekly basis for twelve weeks. After four weeks there will be an incentive for the team with the highest percentage of weight loss. The team with the highest percentage of weight loss after 8 weeks will also receive an incentive. After twelve weeks, the overall winners will receive a dinner at the restaurant of their choice – where, of course, they will all make healthy choices.
