Saving Lives With Charitable Drives

Miami Job Corps youth volunteers have been making an honorable difference with the  Community Blood Centers South Florida(CBCSF) organization.  CBCSF is a non-profit all voluntary blood collection agency.  Each year, CBCSF collects over 250,000 pints of blood and blood products for hospital and kidney dialysis patients. CBCSF serves Southeast and Central Florida. Since 2005, MJCC has held blood drives on a tri-annual basis, with an average of 40 student volunteers donating at every event.  According to CBCSF’s affiliate, the American Red Cross, for every blood donation that is made, 3 lives are saved.  With these donor analysis projections, MJCC’s students will have contributed to saving approximately 600 lives by this year’s end.  Last Spring, at the CBCSF sponsored 2010 Miami Dade County Public Schools Awards Event, MJCC’s SIA Tech(School for Integrated Technologies) was honored and awarded for having the highest numbers of donations for the Charter School category, resulting in 213 pints donated from drives during 2009 thru 2010.
