NH Job Corps Students Lead the Way in New Partnerships to Support Homeless Care & Prevention Organizations in Manchester

Over 20 Job Corps students hosted 6 organizations & agencies to brainstorm student-led projects and community service to benefit the homeless population in Manchester. Some of the organizations present were: Families in Transition, New Horizons, Harbor Homes, QC Bike Collective, and Child & Family services, The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester.

Some of the more than 15 project ideas that came out of the brainstorming session include: Students building raised garden beds for the Veterans at Harbor Homes; culinary students assisting in food prep at New Horizons kitchens; students donating clothing and volunteering at the Families in Transition OutFITters Thrift store. Job Corps students will also participate in the Adopt-A-Block clean-up project on Earth Day in Manchester.

The organizations shared information about their programs and students shared as well: “We get to go to bed each night, and wake up, and we are fine. A lot of people who have mental disorders, or no bed, and no home, they aren’t okay. That’s why we want to help”.
