NH Job Corps Students Launch New Partnership with Salvation Army to Support Kids Cafe

Student Government leaders at NH Job Corps Center began a new community partnership with the Salvation Army. Five Job Corps students: Chris Quijano, Andrew Sorrentino, Shakala West, Wilson Nkurunziza and Alefe Phakos kicked off the first session of volunteering at the Salvation Army’s Kids Café this week.

Elementary school aged children take part in the Kids Café program hosted by the Salvation Army. The Kids Café mission is to provide opportunities for youth to participate in a recreational, educational, cultural, and community enrichment programs; to build confidence and self-esteem; to be encouraged to seek positive influences in their lives and to build relationships with peers, in a safe and structured environment.

Job Corps students will be spending two hours at Kids Café twice a week, engaging with the elementary aged children, and providing mentorship and comradery. Job Corps student volunteers remarked that “We showed them that we are here for them and that we care about them… (and) they made us feel really welcome.”
