On Thursday, February 4th, World Cancer Day, the American Cancer Society hosted its Relay For Life Regional Kickoff Event at New Hampshire Job Corps Center. Over 100 community members, volunteers, and organizations came on center for this energizing event. New Hampshire Job Corps students worked alongside the Relay For Life team to help run the event, greet guests, decorate, set up and clean up. Hospitality students greeted guests down at the Welcome Center, and handed out hot cocoa while guests signed in.

The kickoff event was a great chance for students to learn about creating a team to fundraise for the Greater Manchester Relay For Life event in June. Students are now working on creating teams, selecting a team leader to represent them, and if they aren’t creating a fundraising team, they are discussing ways they can use their trade skills to volunteer at the event.

The Job Corps Center is grateful for the opportunity to host such a wonderful event, with an incredible organization full of passionate employees and volunteers. The pictures above tell a bit of the story of the evening, including the the luminaria lap – where the lights went out and all the guests walked a lap in the darkness, lit by glow stick ‘luminaries’, in remembrance of loved ones claimed by cancer.

This powerful event was a great reminder of the importance of community. Both staff and students at New Hampshire Job Corps Center are committed to volunteering both their time and talent to continue to support great causes, and great organizations.
