On Wednesday, January 13th 2016, the Career Preparation Period (CPP) week three students went off campus to New Horizons in Manchester, as part of their group community service project. The students that took part in the trip were Emily Spain, Felicia DeFrancesco, and Osvaldo Rodriguez. CPP Instructor, Mr. Place and the students spent a couple hours sorting canned goods by type and removing items that were expired. Students all spent time stocking boxes with dry goods, and finished off the morning by standing in line to distribute perishables to the needy.
The staff at New Horizons were glad to have the help and expressed desire in continuing the relationship. Mary Silva, the food service and volunteer manager, stated “…I look forward to continuing the effort, as well as potentially expanding it by accepting Work Base Learning (WBL) students…” The students and Mr. Place they were glad for the opportunity to help, felt a great sense empathy for those in need, and an appreciation for organizations like New Horizons for the services they provide.
