Community Relations Council Stories – A Letter From Pastor Christian Scott

“I first met Cassie back in October at a Chamber of Commerce event. As she spoke about her role at Job Corps and about the program itself I was intrigued. I connected with her after the meeting and we exchanged contact info. She got me plugged into a tour and I was incredibly impressed. I then attended the first Community Relations Council meeting in December. As I left that day I was praying that God would show me someone who could benefit from the amazing opportunity at Job Corps Center. It was then that Jay McBournie came to mind.

I’ve known Jay and his family for several years. They used to be very active members of our congregation. I always saw the potential in him but no one could seem to tap into that potential. He always got through life but had never found an environment where he could really thrive. I reached out to His mom and asked if they had ever considered NH Job Corps Center. They had no idea it existed so I shared a link to the website. Within an hour they reached out to me ecstatic and asked how they could find out more. It was then that I contacted (Admissions Counselor) Jamie Bryant to set up a tour/interview.

On our appointed day, Jay and I arrived early. As we waited in the common area there were plenty of students around as it was between class times. Numerous people expressed interest in us and engaged us in conversation. They shared their personal experiences with Jay and gave him nuggets of advice of what had worked for them to make the transition to Job Corps go better. It was so inviting!

Jamie treated us to lunch and quickly saw into who Jay really is and all that he can become. Jay loved the campus and was able to appreciate the opportunity that was being placed before him. In the following days I worked with Jay and he completed the paperwork just before the Christmas break. It was right after the break that he started attending.

This past Sunday I saw Jay’s mom and she was so encouraged by how well Jay is doing. She said he had just passed his 30 day drug test and he was finally himself again. She was thrilled about how everything was going for him.

I can’t begin to tell you how exciting it was for me to then see him at this week’s Community Relations Council luncheon serving the attendees. He caught my eye through the kitchen window and gave me a big smile. NH Job Corps Center is truly a blessing to Jay, his family, and me. Lives are being changed and I can’t thank you enough.”
