In January, we started off the year with a great meeting with Congressman Jimmy Gomez-CA-34. On a Saturday afternoon, L.A Job Corps’s Business Community Liaison took a group of students to attend a community coffee meeting hosted by Congressman Jimmy Gomez. Surprisingly, the meeting did not have a large attendance but this allowed the group to have a more intimate gathering that provided enough time to really engage in great conversations with the Congressman. In addition to out students, there were Veterans, business owners, and community members that shed light on local issues.

What the students did not expect to hear was that the Congressman had siblings that attended Job Corps too. Congressman Jimmy Gomez’s words of encouragement and sincere support of Job Corps left the students inspired and with a greater sense of confidence in what they’re trying to accomplish. He said “Think Big.”, those two words resonated with the students in addition to learning that he had also attended community college before getting 2 degrees and attending Harvard.

We’re proud to have Congressman Jimmy Gomez as our representatives and so glad students took the opportunity to meet him.
