During the week of Novembner 28 to December 1, 2011 at Loring Job Corps Center, “Women’s Unlimited” offered industry approved classes and state certification for Introduction to Hand & Power Tools and Introduction to Blue Print Reading both 2 day classes . The offered classes were taught to our Loring Job Corps students and to the public that registered.
“Women’s Unlimited” instructor Suzanne Grave-Hall stated that the first course provided students with a working knowledge of power tools as well as industry-recognized third-party certification in power tools. The second course, which a handful of center male’s students also took part in, was a two-day course in blueprint reading. This non-profit group aims at improving the financial independence of Maine women, minorities and the disadvantage workers by providing training and access to jobs with livable wages for career trades, construction, technical and transportation industries. ”These were two courses taught at no cost to the students or the center. Around 35 students participated in the program and it was truly phenomenal”, Center Director Kristie Moir told the audience at the annual evening with the North Star banquet for supporters of LJCC.
