The Honorable Senator Olympia Snowe & Congressman Michael Michaud state offices mentor Loring Job Corps students

In Presque Isle – On June 9, the Loring Job Corps Center had  two students mentor congressional offices of Maine, one to the Honorable Senator Olympia J. Snowe state office being Angela Bellamy and Kenyattah Ford to Congressman Michael H. Michaud office for a one-day internship in which District Representatives Sharon Campbell of the Honorable Senator Snowe and Barbara Hayslett of Congressman Michaud office mentored the students for a typical day. This unique  event was designed to expose Job Corps youth to the inner-workings of congressional district offices.

Job Corps students, including from the Loring Job Corps Center across America participated in “Mentor a Job Corps Student Day”. This unique event, sponsored by the Friends of Job Corps Congressional Caucus – a bipartisan group of members of Congress whose mission is to heighten the awareness and appreciation for Job Corps – allowed students all over the nation to learn more about the important constituent and legislative work that is done in behalf of Maine citizens.

Loring Job Corps’ students Angela Bellamy and Kenyattah Ford were selected after an an interview process to determine who was eager to learn more about their elected officials and the role they play to protect and strengthen local services to constituents. Angela Bellamy is 21, has been on center for 7 months and is specializing in Carpentry. Kenyattah Ford is 20, has been on center for 8 months and is enrolled in the Medical Administration vocation.

Both Angela and Kenyattah came back with a better appreciation and understandings of the operations of the district offices had with the general public up to our Senators and Congressmans levels of communication. Congressman Michaud's Office
