On the morning of January 19th one of our coldest days this winter, the Secretary of State, Charles E. Summers, Jr. charisma and welcomed visit to LJCC reached out to many students and staff for their multitude accomplishments and continued successes for our center. Joining Sec. of State Summers was his assistant Megan Sanborn, Deputy Sec. of State, Lynn Harvey, Deputy Sec. of State for Motor Vehicles, Thomas Arnold and Director of Driver Education Eric Bellavance. The tour was guided by Pamela Buck, Business Community Liaison and Tammy Foster, Outreach and Admission with the assistance of Michael Kinney, Career Technical Training Manager, Sergeant Major Roger Felix, Military Prep Instructor, SGA/Honor Guard facilitator and Glenn Martin, Culinary Arts Instructor.
One of requests was to view our driver education simulator which, Ed Lower our LJCC driver education instructor and two of his students demonstrated. It encouraged even Sec. Charles Summers to take a test run. Other areas visited were the HBI Carpentry, Auto and CDL vocations where every student and instructor was personally greeted by the Sec. of State. After a general tour a round table discussion was held with all visitors and students from the SGA, Honor Guard, Culinary, Painting, Auto and CDL vocations to answer any question that our guests may have had from the student’s perspective of LJCC offerings and their career goals.
The tour ended on a high note when the Culinary Arts students prepared and hosted along with their Instructor Glenn, Martin a delicious hot lunch and desserts to all everyone including the students that participated in the previous meeting, the Center Director Kristie Moir and the Senior Staff Team. All the students dined with the Secretary of State at his table per his request which included many topics of discussions as well. To conclude the visit a special engraved picture was given to the Secretary of State for his support to Loring Job Corps Center in respect to his 1st visit to a Job Corps Center.
