February 27-28, 2012 – Bystanders Project Conference: Bystanders Project is a grant funded project, and Loring Job Corps Center was one of 2 schools in the state of Maine who received this grant – $10k in value. This project will teach students awareness and prevention of physical and sexual assaults. It will teach them to be active bystanders and how they as an individual can prevent something horrible from happening to others. The retreat took place at the Hampton Inn in Presque Isle Feb. 27-28; and the will follow up sessions took place on center Feb. 29-Mar. 1, 2012. This program assisted the center with retention as we have taken the opportunity to place newer students that are currently on the waiting lists and this will also ensure positive support in the centers overall culture and safety.
Over 40 students were selected from Loring Job Corps Center to attend this conference. Both WAGM-TV News and the Aroostook Republican News attended for media coverage.
