On February 23, 2012, Loring Job Corps had it’s first Community Relations Council meeting for 2012. The center’s vision and updates of the LJCC performance was presented by Center Director, Kristie Moir. The Business Community Liaison/Worked Based Learning Coordinator, Pamela D. Buck discussed the Internship programs offered and updates from the National Job Corps Association developements that were covered at he policy forum held in Washington D.C. the first week of February, 2012. Even though the weather was not the best for traveling we had a large representation of the community attend. Over 24 CRC members attended which included representation from Senator Collins Office, Congressman Michaud Office, Northern Maine Community College, Loring Development Authority, Maine Military Authority, Cary Medical, University of Maine at Fort Kent, Maine Department of Transportation, Loring Fire Department, ACAP and WAGM-TV News.
Other topic of discussion included options for Veterans to attend Job corps Centers, more outreach into the community of the sucesses we have had with our students finding full-time, long-term employment in vocations offered and the importance of Maine students being aware of the offerings of Job Corps vocational training. WAGN-TV Newscaster Richard Palm did participate in our discussions and also did a segment for the News that aired the evening of February 23 with the Center Director, Kristie Moir.
