Loring Job Corps Center students from the Honor Guard attended along with staff members Pamela D. Buck, BCL & Rick Groom, RA the ground breaking ceremonies of the Van Buren Land Port of Entry. Appearing at the ceremony was the Honorable Susan M. Collins, United States Senator of Maine whom took time to speak to our Honor Guard students and staff  and mentioned LJCC attendance in her opening remarks. Also present was representation for the Honorable Olympia J. Snowe, Sharon Campbell and Honorable Congressman Michael H. Michaud, Barbara Hayslett. Other guest speaker included Keith Fleming, Area Port Director of Department of Homeland Securities,and the U.S. Customs & Border Protection. This 21 acre site will not only be a development and investment for Customs & Border Protection but for the community of Van Buren residents and surrounding communities. The LJCC students learned more details concerning the Port of Entry and the effects it had on the economy and welfare of the citizens it serves to protect.
