The Maine Conservation Corps (MCC) field team requested assistance in projects that were being done in Aroostook County. The outreach Coordinator and volunteer, Sarah Kilch Gaffney stated that MCC completes projects on the Appalachian Trail, State Parks and several public reserved lands, as well as municipalities and local land trusts. Loring Job Corps Cement Masonry students under the supervision and instructions of David Tardie joined the efforts to assist with Haystack Mountain to work on the erosion control, maintance of existing trails and stone work. This allows for hikers to have trails that are safe and cleared of obstructions during their visit. The students found the work to be exhausting and rewarding at the same time. They also mentioned they rather be outside working on projects with their class and enjoyed seeing different areas in Aroostok County. Their instructor David Tardie is under the Plasterers and Cement Masons Job Corps Training program at Loring Job Corps Center and this program completed several cement masonry project over the summer of 2012.
