Long Beach Job Corps students and staff members conducted a neighborhood street cleanup and beautification project on Cota Avenue, Technology Place, and Santa Fe Avenue in Long Beach, California as one of several Make a Difference Day Projects on October 21, 2011. They raked, swept, picked up trash, weeded, cleaned, and filled up many bags with trash, weeds, and grass clippings.
The large group dispersed into three smaller groups. By the end of the activity, they had cleaned the area in front of the police department, up the street at the park, and almost everywhere within eyesight. By the end of the day there was a complete metamorphosis. What had appeared unkempt in the morning, was clean and tidy by the afternoon.
