Long Beach Student Participates in Mentor a Job Corps Student Day with California 37th Congressional District Office

On June 9, 2011, Long Beach Job Corps student Michael Parker had the honor of participating in Mentor a Job Corps Student Day. Michael spent the day with Mr. Eric Boyd, District Director for California’s 37th District Congresswoman Laura Richardson.

Michael was greeted by Mr. Boyd at the downtown Long Beach District Office and spent the entire day with him and fellow staff members learning about the workings of Congressional offices. Mr. Boyd is very familiar with Long Beach Job Corps, having visited the center numerous times, serving as a Community Relations Council Member, and also as a  mentor for Work-Based Learning Interns.

As part of his experience, Michael had the opportunity to visit the satellite offices in Carson and Compton, California and interview staff members about their jobs.

The next day he excitedly answered questions and told classmates about his wonderful experience.
