The newly- elected Long Beach Job Corps Student Government Association(SGA) Officers recognized staff members who have served in the United States Military at a Veterans Day Assembly on center. The students conducted a ceremony recognizing 14 staff with presentations of yellow carnations to each.
Center Standards and Incentives Clerk, Crystal Aguayo, made her Job Corps singing debut with a heartfelt rendition of the National Anthem during the ceremony. The SGA President’s announcement of the names of veterans was met with rousing applause as they were individually recognized. Each veteran stated what branch of the military they served in, how many years of service they gave, and if and where they were deployed.
Staff member Holly Cuevas loaned the students 2 special American Flags, which were presented during the ceremony. One flag was flown in Iraq and the other was flown in Afghanistan during U.S. combat missions. Students proudly held each flag as certificates describing them were read.
The ceremony ended with a group photo of the Veterans and Student Government Association officers.
