The Long Beach Job Corps Center held its Let’s Move Cities and Towns Kickoff on March 23, 2011 with Student Government Association Representatives, members of the Community Relations Council and guests. Guests included Ms. Stacey Fong-Toda,the Mayor’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Ms. Helene Ansel, Special Assistant for State Senator Alan Lowenthal, and Ms. Yvette Shahinian, Legislative Assistant from the Office of Congresswoman Linda Sanchez.
Mr. Curglin Robertson, Chair of the Long Beach Job Corps Community Relations Council welcomed members and introduced Ms. June Rentas, Center Director. Ms. Rentas presented a center update and enthusiastically told everyone of the the great strides that students and staff have taken in the past few months to move toward a healthier lifestyle.
Some of the healthier changes include incorporating healthy snacks into vending machines, education on making healthier choices, including education on portion sizes, nutritional value, an importance of a good diet. Daily exercise is also one of the changes that students and staff are incorporating.
