STUDENT SUCCESS STORY: MINH NGO ON THE GO
Minh Ngo is on the fast track at age 23, always keeping his eye on the goal. Minh came to the United States from Viet Nam just a few years ago with his family, knowing very little English.
He attended English Language Learner classes, and enrolled at Long Beach Job Corps Center. Minh credits attending Long Beach Job Corps Center with helping him learn English, because he had to communicate with his fellow students, teachers, and dorm mates in English. According to Minh, “Job Corps is like a key to open my future.” Minh completed the Pharmacy Technician program at Long Beach Job Corps Center in March 2014. He is now a graduate of the Long Beach Job Corps Pharmacy Technician Training program and his future is now open to even more opportunity. A year later, his life has changed due to his hard work and drive.
Minh’s drive and desire to succeed is apparent to everyone he meets. Minh started his job as a Pharmacy Technician at CVS about a year ago. In addition, he currently attends Cypress College and is on his way to attaining his future educational goal: to obtain an advanced degree.
According to Ms. Mina Tran, a Pharmacy Manager at CVS and Minh’s manager and mentor, “Minh is a very fast learner.” Minh’s future plans include becoming a Pharmacist, like Ms. Tran. She said, “He has a high potential to become a pharmacist. She quickly added, “Everyone here loves him, including staff and patients.”
Minh recently came back to visit Long Beach Job Corps. Staff and students warmly greeted him. When asked for advice he would give to current students, he explained the importance of using time wisely and not wasting a minute.
