Isaac grew up as an only child raised by his father, and went from living in his car to becoming an employed role model for Long Beach Job Corps students, his fellow college students, and community members.
Isaac R. enrolled at the Long Beach Job Corps Center and:
- Completed Health Occupations Career Technical Training and became a Certified Nurses Aide
- Got his California Driver’s License after completing driver’s education and training classes
- Enrolled at Long Beach City College through the Advanced College Training (ACT) Program
- Won the Associated Student Body President election at the college
- Became a member of the Viking Volunteer Hall of Fame, whereby he completed over 400 hours of volunteer work.
- Reached out to his fellow college students and referred them to become tutors for Long Beach Job Corps students.
- Began work at a city council member’s office as Assistant Field Deputy.
- Profiled in a recent news article in the Signal Tribune Newspaper.
In his own words about Job Corps: “It has changed my life, going from homeless to Associated Student Body President, to Long Beach City College Man of the Year and to meeting world-known people, and participating in all those events, it’s all because of the Long Beach Job Corps Center.”
