Little Rock Security Students Participate in “We Walk for Those, Who Marched for Us” Walk for Veterans

The Security & Safety Officer Students and Instructor, Thelma Dixon, participated in a walk for Veterans Service Members on March 9th. The event was hosted by the American Legion and featured such guests as Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, Lieutenant Governor Tim Griffin, the state auditor, state treasurer, and several state representatives. The Walk for Veterans motto was “We Walk for Those, Who Marched For Us”. Due to inclement weather, the march was held inside the State Capitol in the Rotunda. The students were thanked for participating in the event and were greeted by veterans as well as Lieutenant Governor, Tim Griffin. The students also visited the State Treasurer’s Office where each had the opportunity to hold one half million dollars.

Ms. Dixon, an Army retiree and member of Michael Vann Johnson Jr. Post 74 in North Little Rock, was quoted in an article on American Legion’s website as saying, “This is an opportunity that a lot of students won’t get: to do public service, to meet real veterans who have served their country. I like to get my students exposed to what’s going on in the community.”
