Students Get Hands On Experience During Groundhog Job Shadow Day
“Success in business requires training, discipline and hard work. But, if you’re not frightened by these things, the opportunities are just as great today as there ever were.”—David Rockefeller On Groundhog Day February 2nd, students of Little Rock Job Corps were afforded the unique opportunity to shadow a workplace and employees as they went through a normal working day. Many businesses hosted several students to gain work experience in careers of their choice. The Job Shadowing took place at multiple locations throughout Little Rock such as Arkansas Diagnostics Center, State House Convention Center, City of Little Rock, Willie Hinton Center Midtown, Wakefield Neighborhood Alert Center, Little Rock School District, IT City of Little Rock and Arkansas State Police just to name a few.
Students were able to get hands on experience that linked their school work to real life working place settings with the employees that worked there. Lesley Jones stated, “ I really enjoyed job shadowing with Arkansas Diagnostics Clinic. The staff was very friendly and informed me of what they were about and how they help to serve many people from everywhere, even outside of the state.” “They even gave us their contact information for us to contact them when we complete the program.” Robert Long replied, “It was great to get off the center and to see other people at work and how they have fun working, enjoying their work, but having fun getting their work done.” Can I do it again? I wanted to go again today.” Cassandra Fear and Samantha Shadley made an awesome impression on Little Rock School District’s auditing department while shadowing. These two students were given tasks to help the department after viewing what was done in this department . They eagerly helped by almost completing the entire project until it was time for them to leave. They stated, “We were told we were a big help and that we help them to complete almost all of their project and they only had a small amount to complete and they would get finished ahead of their schedule.” Cassandra and Samantha were handed business cards and direct contact information from the director and told to contact them when they have completed the program and are ready for employment.
