Job Corps teamed up with Young
Intellectual Active Minds (Y.I.AM) and
Live Free Tobacco Prevention Program to
host a “Smoke Free Movie Night” and “Splash That AD Water Battle”
in honor of World No
Tobacco Day. Students enjoyed watching
the movie “Dope” as Patrice Bax with
Y.I.A.M. discussed the health risks of
tobacco use and encouraged students to
rise above the pressures of engaging in
negative, risky behaviors (such as
smoking or drug use). In honor of World
No Tobacco Day “Splash that
AD” Water Battle was a “chill” event, as
students engaged in many water activities
such as splash tug-of-war, water-balloon
dodgeball, target practice, and dunk the
smoker dunking booth. The students were
also given shirts with tobacco free slogans
written on them. The event featured a
positive performance by Anta Thompson, who lyrically sent the message that it’s
“Gone Get Better”. TEAP Specialist, Yulonda Warrior, assisted with
coordinating the event on Center. Over 60 individuals pledged to be tobacco free!
