In a down to the wire contest. The ladies had long, out distanced the men. Thus it became a race between the ladies and time. The contest was to end on November 22, 2011(Mid-Night). The Ladies of Willow Dorm, had taken the lead on November 21, donating a whopping 452 non-perishable goods. However, on Nov. 22 The Ladies of Magnolia, hearing the braggadocios taunts of The Ladies of Willow dorm; feeling the nagging sting of defeat; knowing the importance of Community service and their obligation to it, the Ladies, sprang into action. By 6p.m. on November 22, 2011, The Ladies of Magnolia had donated 528 non-perishable goods. A number that still stood victorious at contest end, on November 23, 2011…
All of the non-perishable goods collected, will be donated to the Arkansas Food Bank. The AFB is apart of the Hunger Relief Alliance and supplies most of the community food banks around the state with food to relieve hunger. In addition, to numerous food drives (our second this year), the Little Rock Job Corps also has an STARS Outreach Team that goes regularly to The Arkansas Food Bank. The students sort donations and stock shelves with donated food. The thing the students really take a lot of pride in, is the AFB’s staff, cheers whenever they see Little Rock Job Corps coming. They often compliment the students on how much they accomplish in a few hours of work. The Little Rock Job Corps Student Leadership is about to establish another team of volunteers to serve at the Arkansas Food Bank.
“In 2010, the center distributed 13.2 million pounds of food to our approximately 300 member agencies in central and southern Arkansas and to the state’s five other regional Feeding America food banks.”
