Advanced Training – Little Rock Student Rachel Green

Originally from Cotton Plant, AR, Rachel Green came to Little Rock Job Corps Center and chose to complete the Security Trade, where she earned her Certified Protection Officer certification. Rachel got her high school diploma from Augusta High School in Augusta, AR before arriving at Job Corps.

Rachel quickly found her place on center, serving in several leadership roles. Rachel began her leadership experience on Dorm Leadership with Green Committee. She then moved onto SGA, where she served as Sergeant in Arms, and later on Vice-President. Not only was she active in SGA, but Rachel also served as a CPP Mentor and joined the co-ed fraternity on center, Theta Phi Omega.

Assigned to the Welcome Center for on-center WBL, Rachel had a presence on center, and was able to get the job done effectively. Rachel has also worked at Fed-Ex as a security officer through her employer, Universal Protection Services.

Staff on center can attest to Rachel’s involvement and leadership. Ms. Thelma Dixon, Security Trade Instructor, described Rachel as an “outstanding leader both in and out of the security classroom.” Ms. Tailyn Funches, Week 4 CPP Instructor and Rachel’s mentor for her CPP mentorship position, stated that Rachel is “very reliable. She always led by example. Rachel is helpful and creative; she came up with games for pre-90 group activities,” and also helped with CPP graduation each week.

“I was always on the move at this center. I’m very focused and knew where I wanted to go.” Rachel has been accepted into the Advanced Residential Advisor program at the Gary Job Corps Center in San Marcos, TX. It is no surprise, seeing how involved Rachel has been on our center. When asked why she chose the Advanced RA program, Rachel stated, “even though I’m young, I understand where people are coming from. At Little Rock or another Job Corps, I’ll know what the students are going through. I want to help them succeed and get where they’re trying to go in life.”

We have absolutely no doubt in our minds that Rachel will continue to be a leader and an example to other students when moving onto Advanced Training. The Advanced Residential Advisor program will definitely help Rachel to hone her leadership skills and help her residents to achieve their goals.

Keep up the great work, Rachel! Little Rock Job Corps is proud of you!
