On Tuesday, August 30th 2011 local officials, business leaders, Laredo Job Corps staff and family members joined approximately 50 students graduating from the Laredo Job Corps Center. Together, we celebrated the 1st Annual National Job Corps Commencement Day. The ceremony took place at the Laredo Job Corps Center Auditorium at 6:00 PM.
Approximately 171 students obtained their GED or High School On-Line Certificate at the Laredo Job Corps Center between July 2010 and August 2011. The Honorable Congressman Henry Cuellar was invited as the Guest Speaker. He talked about the importance of having dreams. “This is just the first step to success” Congressman Cuellar said. Also, Miguel Chavez a former graduate participated as our Success Story and he also emphasized the importance of not giving up on your dreams. Mr. Chavez graduated from LJCC back in 2008 and he is currently enrolled at the Texas A&M International University and programed to graduate in 2012 with a Masters Degree in Accounting.
Approximately 60,000 students complete the Job Corps program each year at one of 124 centers across the country. Nationally, about 86% of Job Corps graduates go on to find and keep jobs continue to higher education or enlist in the military.
