An Employment Workshop was conducted on April 12, 2016, for students interested in employment with the Durham County Detention Center. Lt. Alicia S. McKinney provided information on job openings, requirements, duties, responsibilities and benefits. Lt. McKinney also provided interview tips for the group. She explained that the starting salary for staff is $28,000 yearly and upon completion of the academy, the salary will increase to $32,210. Benefits include health, dental, 401-K and uniforms. Prior to the workshop ending, students were able to ask Lt. McKinney questions about her career and about working as a Detention Officer. All participants received promotional items as an incentive to strive for excellence.
