As part of the Kittrell Job Corps Center Women’s Month celebrations (IGR), students and staff conducted a community service project at the Brodie Farm. According to Marion Williams the President of SOFFA (Southern Organic Female Farmers Association), the Kittrell Job Corps Center students and staff were very helpful in assisting the Brodie Farm in prepping for the spring planting season. “I am excited about this established work-based learning partnership with the Kittrell Job Corps Center”, said Marion Williams. The Brodie Farm is one of two USDA GAP Certified Farms in Vance County. “I am very impressed to see the Job Corps students willing to learn and volunteer their services to help out”, said, Rosetta Thorpe, the Brodie Farm Master Gardner who plans, records and develops the garden areas. “I feel especially honored” Kimbria Primous KJCC Facility Maintenance student, “helping SOFFA (Southern Organic Female Farmers Association) with this years planting season”.
KJCC student Titus Colvin Facility Maintenance, said “It is quite neat, like seeing things get done, working properly and garden preparation. When I first arrived, I knew what I was looking at, a High Tunnel Hoop House, because I have helped my father put up many of these”.
KJCC student Nishad Hills Facility Maintenance, said, “I enjoy volunteering in the community”.
