American Themed Open Mic Night

On Thursday, July 28, 2016 the Kittrell Job Corps Center Academic Department hosted an American Themed Open Mic Night as part of its American History Month Celebration. There were 9 students who performed various acts that included poetry and  melodic tunes by the way of singing. The following students; Tammy Woods, Bennie Wilson,  Latesha Hall, Nekia Platt, DeRaye Turner, Romesha Bell, Quanique Dunn-Harris, Cytera Mack, and Zackary Smith stood in front of approximately fifty of their peers and exuded confidence, creativity, and overall excellence. The event was hosted by Academic Manager, Nadirah l’Uqdah, and Math TABE instructor, James O. Brown. Academic Staff and CTT instructors served as the judges with the help of the crowd. DeRaye Turner, Tammy Woods, and Romesha Bell were named the finalist. Open Mic Night was a well put together event that provided a creative outlet for students while showcasing the importance of knowing one’s history. This is an event that the  Academic team will continue to host.

Open Mic participates eagerly await their turn to display their talents on the microphone.
