Keystone Supports Relief Effort

In response to a call for help from their local chapter of the American Red Cross the Keystone Center was designated as a shelter for volunteers assisting  in disaster relief efforts.  The center housed 78 volunteers from all parts of the United States from 9/11 through  9/13.  Their mission to help victims affected by flooding from Hurricane Irene.

The impact of the hurricane also had an adverse affect on blood supplies in the region due to the cancellation of nearly 60 scheduled drives.  In response, students and staff stepped up donating 111 units of blood on September 13th.  Additionally the center is exploring other ways of  helping citizens in the area.  Today a small group of students and a staff member traveled to nearby Bloomsburg to help in that city’s clean up effort.
