At the end of the first day of classes following winter break, Dorm Supervisor Kevin Dorris walked out of his office and raised his voice.

“Roll call,” he said, repeating the phrase until one by one, the residents of Franklin Delano Roosevelt Dorm assembled in the lounge.

As they trickled in, Dorm Counselor Evan Kruger joined the group. When student Maurice Simpson walked in, Dorris quickly stopped him for a short conversation about the rules regarding dorm windows.

Dorris, Kruger and their staff are a winning team. During the past three months, they had the highest average ranking over the past three months making them the Success Team of the Quarter. The rating is based on the accomplishments of the students who live in FDR: their completion of academics and trade and lower number of days away without leave, among other factors.

“They have been steady and diligent in their task to take the males of FDR dorm to their highest potential,” said Career Develop-ment Manager Josh Collier.

How do they do it?

“I think perseverance,” Dorris said. “We have a great team, and the team solidifies and works together for the success of the stu-dents.”

Consistency is the key, Kruger said.

“It’s important for students to see us day after day and recognize that we care about them,” he added.
