Former Joliet Job Corps Student Dora Sircher is taking her career to the next level.
And she returned to the Joliet Job Corps Center this week to talk with students about her new life.
Earlier this year, Dora finished the Center’s Pharmacy Tech and Certified Nursing Assistant Programs. She then enrolled in the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at the Denison Job Corps Center in Denison, Iowa. This rigorous 18-month program allows a student to become an LPN while earning an Associate of Science Degree from Western Iowa Tech Community College.
Dora has successfully completed the summer/fall 2015 semesters with a 4.0 grade point average. She is working at a nursing home, is tutoring other students and has been inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. When Dora finishes Advanced Training, she plans to stay in Iowa and complete the coursework to become a Registered Nurse.
Dora spent Jan. 11 at the Center meeting with students and sharing the details of her road to success. She spoke with a large group of students from the CNA, Pharmacy Tech, Career Transition and Career Preparation Period classes.
After giving a detailed account of her experiences, Dora addressed questions and concerns from the student body. They wanted to know what it was like to live at the Denison Center and she liked best about the program
Students that might have been on the fence about Advanced Training were now able to hear firsthand about the advantages from one of their peers.
