Success Story: Brandt Michael

All the hard work has really paid off for Brandt Michael.

He’s now ready and able to move back to his Waynesville, Missouri, his hometown.

The 22-year-old came to the Joliet Job Corps Center in 2014. He chose Security/MILCAP as a trade and became a class leader.

“He was a good student and very articulate. He interacted well with his peers,” said Charles Betts, the Security Instructor.

Career Preparation Period Advisor April Norman agreed.

“He was very determined and hard working,” she said.

When he completed the program in January 2015, he already had found a job at Metro One Security. And he had saved enough money to rent an apartment in the Joliet area. But he wanted to earn enough money to move back home, so he had to have a plan.

“I got a second job with G and W Electric Co., and I worked 72 hours a week for six months,” Mr. Michael said.

Now he’s ready to make the trip.

“I’m really proud of him,” Ms. Norman said. “He was able to make it here, a complete different state, where he did not know anyone,” she said.

After finishing training at the Joliet Job Corps Center, Brandt Michael worked two jobs to earn enough money to move home.
