Saluting Veterans

The Joliet Job Corps Center's Security students presented the colors at the beginning of the Veterans Day assembly on Nov. 11.

Thank you for your service.

The Joliet Job Corps Center’s students and staff honored the nation’s military Wednesday during a Veterans Day assembly.

Led by Sarah Grills, Security students presented the colors, and Career Development Manager Josh Collier and student Shanicesha Phelps sang an outstanding a cappella duet of the national anthem. Students Shanbril Whooper, Angelica Wilson, James Tucker and Samuel Lewis took turns presenting a history of Veterans Day that included an explanation of how Nov. 11 became a national holiday. They also read poems reflecting upon the lives of the men and women who serve in the armed forces.

At the end of the program, there was a moment of silence to honor the members of the military who have made the ultimate sacrifice and died to keep our country free.
