As a Career Technical Skills Training project, the Building Construction Technology and Cement Trades are updating a gazebo at the Center.
The work began the last week of May, said Joe Ryan, BCT Instructor. The projected completion date is June 30. About 20 students have been working on it every day, except for when it has rained.
“The gazebo needs repairs,” Mr. Ryan said. “We tore off the roof and are replacing it. We removed the benches, and we are replacing them. We also are adding new lighting, siding, fascia and gutters.”
Cement Instructor Robert Clary’s students have removed a sidewalk leading to the gazebo. They will replace it and add a new one that will better connect the main sidewalk to the gazebo. The students from the two different trades have formed a real team.
“The interaction between Cement and BCT has been flawless,” said Chris Flanagan, BCT Instructor.
All of the students are working very hard, but some of them have been exceptional. Student Kenneth Morgan has really stepped up to the plate, for example, Mr. Ryan said.
“He has been one of our best workers on this project. He ripped off much of the roof himself,” Mr. Ryan said.
Student Ramsey Hubbard has been demon
strating his carpentry skills.
“He replaced all the planks and plywood on the roof. He has been doing a lot of hammer-ing and prying,” Mr. Ryan said. “He also has been diligent about cleanup to keep the site clean and safe.”
