Preparing for the Job Search at Joliet Junior College

Joliet Job Corps Center students got the job search process off to a good start when they attended the Job Fair Kickoff at Joliet Junior College on Feb. 17.

The event helps students prepare for job interviews. It’s traditionally held before the Joliet Regional Job Fair that is scheduled on April 8 at the college’s main campus.

As part of the event, the students were able to have practice conversations with human resources professionals and local em-ployers. The chats taught them how to shine during an actual interview.

The students also learned about dressing for success from JC Penney staffers during a career fashion show. There also was a booth where young men could learn how to properly knot a neck tie.

The young ladies got hair and makeup advice from stylists at Sephora and the JCP Salon. Perhaps best of all, the Royal Image Barber College offered free hair cuts, and two of the Center’s students got fresh and professional new looks.

There were demonstrations explaining the best methods to use while searching for a job on the Internet. The students were required to bring their resumes to the event, and there were experts who were ready to critique them and offer suggestions that might improve them.

At the end of the event, the students had gained valuable information about the world of work and new resources for advancing their careers.
