Van Iang and Liberata Muhawenimana want to become more fluent in English.
So they are going to attend English as a Second Language classes at Joliet Junior College. The twice-weekly sessions are developed for people who have language barriers and test at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.
Van was born in Burma and now lives in Rockford, Illinois, with her mother and two brothers. She decided to enroll at the Joliet Job Corps Center because she wanted an education. The Center’s staff describe her as having a positive attitude and being determined to learn and succeed. She is in the Pharmacy Tech Trade, is working on her high school diploma and often has a book in her hand.
Liberata was born in Africa and now lives with her father in Aurora, Illinois. She has five sisters and one brother. She is interested in obtaining her high school diploma and completing the C.N.A. trade.
Both students are eager to receive additional assistance with reading, writing and communicating in the English language. They are excited to begin the ESL classes and progress more in their high school and trade classes while at the Joliet Job Corps Center.
