They identified signs of toxic relationships and emphasized the importance of walking away from them.
The residents of the Rosa Parks and C.J. Walker dorms engaged in a variety of activities and hands-on exercises that gave them a new perspective on the difference between loving relationships and domestic violence.
Many of the young ladies shared their stories with the group, and spoke from the heart when explaining their own experiences with domestic violence.
Laquenta Moffett, the keynote speaker, told the audience that if they had a negative outlook, they would attract negativity. She urged the young ladies to improve their attitudes so that they could attract more positive people and outcomes into their lives.
Valerie Pastwa, a representative from Guardian Angel Community Services, the Joliet agency that works to prevent domestic violence, also spoke at the conference. After hearing her stories, the young women were shaken at the devastating outcomes. It was a wakeup call for some of them and a warning for others
