Despite the rain, they walked a mile — in high-heeled pumps.
On April 30, Social Development Director Alicia Grangent, some staffers and eight students braved the weather and participated in “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes,” an event organized by Joliet’s Guardian Angel Community Services to increase the awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault in the community. The event challenged men to take a mile-long stroll while wearing women’s shoes.
The Joliet Job Corps Center became involved as part of the Global Youth Service Day activities.
Student Joshua Martin wore the red shoes and walked. “It’s not as easy as it looks,” he said. “If you think about a loved one that was abused, would you support her?”
Staff member Danon Salonis -McGrew walked too. “I’m out here in the rain for a cause, and I’m completing the mile for my family and past instructors,” he said.
